Wonder Woman 2 Release Date Has Been Changed To Avoid Star Wars

Warner Bros. has changed the release date for Wonder Woman 2 today. This may have been done to make sure the movie gets as much money as possible. Disney has locked another date in the lucrative Christmas holiday period.

The release date for Wonder Woman 2 was supposed to be out on December 13, 2019.

However, the studio has now announced the release date has changed and it will now come out on November 1st, 2019. November is a month that won't be so competitive.

Star Wars: Episode IX originally had a release date of May 24th, 2019. Disney changed the release date for Episode IX until December 20th, 2019.

The release date was due to Lucasfilm getting rid of Colin Trevorrow as the director. J.J. Abrams is coming back and the movie had to be delayed in order to do script rewrites.

The fact that big movies are avoiding each other is a good thing. Episode IX was originally going to come out just a few weeks after the fourth Avengers movie.

This was odd since Disney owns both Avengers and Star Wars. Disney was going to compete with itself.

Since Episode IX has a strong female hero with Rey, it would have been competitive if Wonder Woman 2 was released one week prior. The new release dates ensure all the big movies can get as much money as possible.

Releasing movies all at the same time can hurt studios.

20th Century Fox learnt this the hard way this year slotting War of the Planet of the Apes in between the release dates of both Spider-Man: Homecoming and Dunkirk.

Even though War of the Planet of the Apes had good reviews, it was still the lowest grossing movie in the new trilogy.
