KC Royals Free Agency Rumors

Weee doggy, Free Agency… and what a bunch of crap.

St. Paul blah blah newspaper announced Baird offered Jacque Jones a 4 year $24 Million deal. Some people think this isn’t true, but why not? Everytime Jones came to KC, Denny or one of the other ol’ boys would sit down and talk to the guy. Royals fans love him. He would bring people to the games and actually be selected into the All-Star game (unlike Mike only getting in because the Royals have to have someone there).

This move would be one of the best moves in recent history for the Royals (only second to selecting Sisco).

Jones might not hit more than 25HR or get more than 100RBI, but he can fly and play great D. Could you imagine a Royals outfield with Jones, Dejesus and Gathright (if we get him for Affeldt or in a 3-way)? Teams may actually fear KC! And with Butler, Huber and Gordon coming up soon, damn what a team. Now we would just need pitching, but of course we could always get someone in FA this year and keep our bullpen together (except Affeldt and perhaps someone else). Burgos, Mac, Sisco and Nunez in the pen with Hernandez, Grienke and Byrd? as the three +starters and having Wood/Bautista (who may move to pen)/Howell bringing up the rear.

Ideally: Byrd, Grienke, Hernandez, Wood, Bautista

Why Wood in the rotation and not Howell? Wood had great numbers towards the end of last season as a starter, infact, he was one of the only bright spots. I’m not that thrilled on Howell anyhow.

If Byrd can’t be had, we are screwed and that’s all there is to say. Byrd a few years back said he would come back to KC for less money, KC didn’t offer it for some ungodly reason… So hopefully he will do us a favor and come back to us.
