Alright, so Mr. President is going to grow some nice veggies in his back yard. So what? Sure, it is cool. But he probably won’t even be doing it himself. That isn’t my problem with it. Actually, I don’t have a problem with the fact that the family is doing this at all. My problem is with the media covering it.
My problem is with the fact that the media doesn’t seem to realize what Victory Gardens actually mean.
During the World Wars supplies were extremely limited–of course. Food growth was down and soldiers weren’t receiving the nutrition they need overseas. Therefor, residents began growing gardens in their back yards, and politicians began calling them ‘Victory Gardens’ and even the White House grew one.
So you see, it isn’t about the president growing a garden. It is about the collective population coming together and growing their own food to help support themselves, their families, and the nation.
