Nancy Boyda made some comments yester which have gained some criticism. I am however split on what she had to say or even what she meant.
She first states:
I think we’re going to vote to support what the commander in chief and head of military asks to do. At least, I am certainly going to vote to support it.
But then says:
Yes.… He is the commander in chief, Charlie. We don’t get that choice. Congress doesn’t make that decision.
And of course follows it up with:
[The voters] should have thought about that before they voted for President Bush not once, but twice.
You could easily look at what she is saying from two different angles. On one hand you could say she is going against what she said in her campaign and she lied to her voters and is ticked off at everyone who voted for Bush. However, on the other hand you could say she is only going to vote for the measure to support the troops and that she is being a realist. Which one is it?
I am taking the middle ground on this one. I’m not going to say what she said is right or wrong or even that she went against her campaign. However, it does scare me that she is out of the loop in DC. Maybe it’s just because she’s the new girl in town and hasn’t found her way around the Capitol just yet (benefit of the doubt…).
