For some reason, I find this hilarious. No, not the blog itself, but that Y! Search Blog links to MSN Search’s blog.
It is funny however, that Y! and MSN seem to be teaming up on many instances to fight Google and AOL (although, MSN bought tons of AOL shares, so maybe that’ll change?).
Yahoo just seems to be acting like they are backed up in a corner and trying to survive. I don’t see why they are acting that way though. In theory, they have Google where they want them. Google’s popularity is slowly lowering, it’s uses dropping and it’s SERPs getting worser. At the moment, Yahoo holds a great chunk of the American search queries. Around 30-40%. If yahoo worked harder internationally, their web presence would become much greater than it has. Google owns europe and that’s all there is to it.
Perhaps though, Yahoo seems a way to buddy with MSN until the time is right (Google more so on their heels) then break away and takeover control of the searches. That may, just may be what the plan is.
For now though, it looks ridiulus. Short-term, the MSN/Yahoo joining users seems nice and so does the interlinking, mentioning of each other in various places. However, long-term it is bad in that the extra push from Yahoo may give MSN what they need to take control of the web (and also homes).
